I was fully planning to do my 3rd full-century RACC but ....gark!...what a day. It was cold and drizzly and my energy sucked and my quads were whining like they'd never been on a 'bent before...no changes in the bikes configuration whatsoever, although I HAD been riding the Basso most of the week, with it's 10cm shorter crank arms.

Rode with Kathi for a spell and that was nice, but then about 10 miles out "rose to the challenge" (like a dork) after an insulting remark aimed my way from a DF rider and proceeded to smoke him and his roadie friend UP a long hil and then down like a flash (38.8)...to a point and then after I'd shown them that this old lady ain't no dud, I "allowed" them to take the road ('cause I was flat-exhausted!). Sigh. Dud. Dudette.

Got to the 67/100 mile split...sat there a while...sat there a while longer hoping maybe I'd see Kathi again...and then went the shorter route, relieved that my brain was still functioning.

Upon my return to the parking lot I was nearly despondent with my riding...I've been doing a LOT of hill work and I've dropped 8 pounds, but then I looked at the ride profile and I wasn't quite so "blue" 'cause it was almost 4,000 ft of elevation gain over the 67 mile route. Still - I have a burning in my quads almost all the time lately and going up stairs at work nearly makes my heart stop and I'm panting for breath...what's THAT all about? Like I can go up a mountain, but not two flights of stairs. Anyone else have that experience? Ideas? Suggestions? Don't say "doctor"...I've had too many years of them....

Raining here in Beaver-town...looks like I may have to save my "pretty frock" for another ride, since the 4th Annual "Pretty Dress Ride" does not take place if it's raining. Drat. Crossing my fingers for a sun break to peal through about 1:30 today, 'cause somehow petticoats seem to be beckoning to me...

Now, back to applying Ben-Gay to my legs.
