I've always bought what I need when I need it. Mine usually requires
replacement every 2-3 years.
I've never seen *really* cheap replacement cable housing- most of what
I've bought has been standard Shimano housing. I've never felt the need to
"upgrade". If you want, it's available in bulk quantities:
