Greetings:
The 7th Annual Human Power Challenge held at Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon will take place this Memorial Weekend, May 27-28. This event is the premiere recumbent racing venue of the Northwest and is unique in its variety of races as well as stage setting. We are fortunate to have access to a world class auto race course (PIR), in which to present this exciting spectacle of human powered effort.
The races will demand a wide range of skills and talent through its diversity of venue. From all out power drag racing and flying 200 meter sprints to full on road racing and time trialing. There will also be an infield auto cross race with quick accelerations, hard braking, and switch back cornering, testing rider and machine for agility, power and endurance. For each of these events, we have separate categories of recumbent cycle classes; from stock street vehicles to fully enclosed aerodynamic speed machines. No skill level will be left untested. Riders can enter one or all venues for the two full days of racing and when not racing, the incredible atmosphere of camaraderie of participants is shared with the spectators as they are encouraged and welcomed to mingle and inquire about these fascinatingly viable vehicles.
Admission is free for spectators, so come cheer your favorite racers to victory!
Manufacturers and dealers will be on hand to show the latest in recumbent bicycle technology. There will be a large test ride area and lots of benters to answer your questions. Cash and product prizes will be awarded in all categories of each race.
More details concerning categories, rules, and general race information are available at the OHPV website http://www.ohpv.org/PIR/index.htm then follow the link to the 2006 Race Schedule. Any persons or teams interested in participating in this exciting event can receive further information by sending an email to pirhumanpower at comcast.net .
Volunteer help is needed for various duties during the weekend; set-up, corner monitors, lap counters, timers, etc. The more volunteers we have, the less time each shift needs to be. Please send an email to the address above if you are able to help.
See you there!
Best Regards,
Thomas Breedlove
