[OHPV-list] Probable change to Fourth annual Vernonia Loop on Sunday, Sept 3rd

When riding to the Retreat, we discovered that a key bridge at Timber
Junction was scheduled to be removed by Labor Day weekend. Luckily I
encountered a County project engineer in the area, and he said he
might be able to get us around the problem somehow.
Unfortunately, I have not yet heard anything back from the County. So,
unless happy word arrives by the weekend, I need to make a major
change to the plans for the Vernonia Loop ride.
Here is Plan B: we abandon the option to ride from Elsie to Timber
Junction. The meeting place is changed from Timber Junction to the
first parking lot for the Banks-Vernonia Lineal Park on the paved
section of the trail. You get there by taking Hwy 47 toward Vernonia
from the Sunset Highway, going over the high spot, passing the Lineal
Park access where the trail is still gravel, and watching for the next
trail access/parking lot on the right (east) side.
The ride will have to change from a loop with car shuttle to an
out-and-back. That means you ride as far a distance as you are
comfortable doubling, then return. Only the hardy will want to go
clear to Elsie, as that would become over a 100 mile ride. Riding to
the brunch in Birkenfeld will yield a round trip in the neighborhood
of a metric century and should be very pleasant.
Confused yet? Please let me know what I need to clarify.
