I have 175s on my Aero and LOVE the 165s on my new Aero Basso. BIG difference - I think I climb better with less strain. Time will tell, but I am not going to swap them out for 175s as I originally thought I would do.
My two cents on that which I know little.

<<<Chris asks:
1. What is the collective wisdom on crank length? If I get another crank, I'd be inclined to go down to 165 mm, but that would be something of a 'knee-jerk' reaction. ;^)

I want to switch to shorter cranks also - or at least try them out. While I have not used cranks shorter than 175mm, there are lots of folks on the [HPVA] trikes list, for example, who are happily using them. Some even down to 140 - 150.
Physiologically, the shorter cranks should be better for your joints - esp. the knees - as the overall range of motion will be reduced. And your higher power output is more to the middle of the range, rather than at the extremes.
I would venture that 165's would be a pretty safe purchase.
