Thanks for all the offers of help with the coast down party. Things are coming together!
So far, I've scouted Larch mountain, Stark Street in Gresham, and Mt. Tabor. The only place that met all the criteria on Larch mountain was all the way up at milepost 12. It would be a fine spot, but it's a little far away and a little high (probably 3000 ft or so). A lot of the speedy sections on Larch Mountain were too bumpy. On Mt. Tabor, the road down that the criterium course uses might be OK in a pinch, but it's not very long or very steep, and too likely to have dogs and pedestrians on it. It's nice and smooth, though, with no auto traffic. Perhaps with a permit or course marshalls it could be cleared. Stark Street is out on several counts.
I'll be scouting S. Harding Road near Carver, the Eagle-Bissel Road near Estacada, and Seiffert Road in Sherwood this weekend. These all sound very interesting.
As for dates, September 24 is the day. I'll send out an annoucement about location as soon as it's decided. We'll be contacting people individually about specific offers of help and will post specific requests as needed. Also, at some point, we'll need a roll call of people and bikes. Somehow, it seems the LWB format should be well represented (imagine that, in this bunch!) but we may need more highracers and SWBs.
