What a ride the Peach Century was today!!! Some people travel the Anartica to experience what we have right in our own backyard. A mild morning at 8:22am, 48 degrees and off I go with arm warmers, leg warmers and a windbreaker for ride around the Willamette Valley. Got to the start at Chemetketa College about 9am in a light rain and wind. Headed out looking for my bent buddies. Saw Edna and stopped to sya Hi and make sure everything was OK, about then John WIlliam and Todd showed up returning with mechanical problems, what a bummer that was, imagine missing a fine day like today! Headed out and about five miles later came accross Dave and a cute woman on an Aero with a flat, she had already fixed flat and was putting in back on the fork. Off I went still not at the first rest stop yet, a few miles more and come accross anothe rrecumbent stopped on the side of the road, was a gentleman from Vancouver on a Bachetta (John?), any way he was fine and off I go again, about two more kmile sand another bent stopped alongside the road, I stop and find everythign is OK and take off again. There is a fairly strong cross headwind with light rain, fun, fun fun.....

Had wind, rain, showers, thunderstorms, hail and wind, oh, did I mention wind? Seems like there was always a cross wind for the first 60 miles or so. Roads were slippery, John Henrys were water based paint as required and washed away in many places, talk aboiout hard find the route. After the first rest stop on the 100 mile route you saw other riders very, very occaissionally, so you could not rely on following a throng of neverending riders to the finish.

I never saw John Climaldi but know he was out there somewhere, think I saw Jeff and Diane somehwere but that brain cell seems not to have survived the ride.

At the finish was hot coffee and peach pie......yummmmm

Then ride home....

Dry Roads,

rand
