Last week, PJ and Adam from the OSU ASME team came by the shop to check out the Q Lowracer proto that John Climaldi and I created back in 2001. It was great to see it roll again, and we bumped around on the nasty concrete streets in front of the shop.
They were particularly interested in checking out the StitesHub FWD system. Last year, I sold a StitesHub kit to the UC San Jose team, and IIRC they placed 6th overall out of 18 teams.
After realizing the Q would make a great research vehicle based on its highly adjustable geometry, they were interested in borrowing it and doing some thorough testing. I agreed, and they will be picking it up today [Sat.] as they head back to Corvallis after the Thanksgiving break.
Their research feedback will be most welcomed, as I have been in negotiation with a gentleman from the Netherlands who is very interested in licensing the Q design, and producing it. I am presently working up an estimate for a "production prototype" that would have fixed geometry, and be made of AL.

I've cc'd them on this, and maybe they will want to attend our Holiday Party on the 11th of Dec. - similar to last year's team.

Thanks Jeff - great link to share with any HPV builder - your
resourcefulness is always appreciated by us builders.

Hmmm - Do you know - if - the ASME want their students to research their way
through the build-out - - - or - - do they want the student to do their own
"grass roots" designs for these competitions?

If research is the key for them - then by all means - OHPV could hold a
afternoon seminar for the invited college students. We certainly have plenty
of data to share with them as in advice, wisdom, streamliners, completed
projects, and under-construction racers. We could also provide a list of
resources in relation to their cause.

However - I'm feeling though - maybe - these student are only doing this
exercise to get through the course and not really interested in the true
science of competition. Do they really want to WIN ? Are they SERIOUS
competitors?
