Ok, it sounds like Sunday may be wet, but warmer. We are hoping to do a
ride out by Hagg Lake. (we cant ride on Saturday)
Meet at McMenamins in Forest Grove to head out at 11:00am. Ride to and
around Hagg Lake, then back to Forest Grove.
Isnt this about 40 miles? Bring a warm dry change of clothes and we can
eat at McMennamins when we get done. (snip)
Well, we had a 30 mile, rainless ride today. We could have tried to make
the ride longer, but without maps, we opted for the shorter version.
Turned out to be a wonderful day. Dave & Edna, Jim Lester, Matt & Sandra,
and Carolyn Devine. It started to rain on us as we got on our bikes to head
out, about 11:15am. The rain lasted less than one minute. We worked our
way to Hagg Lake. Traffic was a little heavy on Hwy 47, but not bad.
Everyone stopped to help Carolyn with a flat tire, so Sandra and I rode on
ahead, since we knew the rest would catch us shortly. We regrouped at the
little corner store. Then headed back out, looking directly at the rain
clouds coming in over the Coast Range. But those showers never reached us.
The sun even peeked thru a few times.
At the entrance booth, we learned that Dave & I were the only ones who had
ridden out here before. So the group discussed which way to go around the
lake, and decided on clockwise. My knees were not liking the hills, and I
did not want to go all the way around the lake, so I chose to go
counter-clockwise and rode only about 3 miles, to the first view of the
lake. Took a short break, then turned around and headed back. I got to go
down that long hill this time. Waited only about 20 minutes for the rest of
them, back at the entrance booth. Then we headed back to Forest Grove, and
Mcmenamins.
Jim had sped off ahead of us and by the time we got to Hwy 47, he was out of
sight. We took a side road back into F.G. and expected Jim to be waiting
for us in the parking lot. But he wasnt there. Called him on his cell,
and he had stopped to check on a friend that lived near the highway. He
wasnt home and Jim said he saw us ride by, so he wasnt very far behind us.
He also turned to the side road back to FG, but got a flat about ¼ mile in.
Rear tire, and bad enough hole in the tire, it wouldve gone flat again very
shortly. So I drove over and picked him up in our van. After we all got
our bikes reloaded in our own vehicles, we went inside and enjoyed some
burgers, beer, and friends.
Were sorry more of you didnt join us. You missed a nice day, nice ride.
Edna
