I would just add that icing should be done not more than 20 minutes at a
time - more of a good thing is not nec. better. It is important that the
tissues have a chance to recover and respond to the healing efforts of the
body. I recommend 20 on - 20 off, doing as many cycles as you like.
In between ice, you could do light massage, stroking from the foot up to the
leg in order to help move the swelling out. Gently move the ankle joint
around, but [and this sounds so simple] ... listen to your body, IF IT
HURTS, DON'T DO IT.
This is probably most applicable to later when you want to get on the bike,
but it will also help you determine the intensity of massage and
mobilization.
